History of CDRV
The Condobolin District Retirement Village was opened for residents on 18 September 1978 and were officially opened by the Hon Senator Margaret Guilfoyle, Minister for Social Security, on Saturday 2 December 1978. Distinguished guests on that occasion were Senator Guilfoyle and Mr Guilfoyle; the Hon Ralph Hunt - Minister for Health and Member for Gwydir and Mrs Hunt; Mr J H Taylor - State Member for Temora and Mrs Taylor; Dr John Morgan - Director of Rehabilitation and Geriatrics, Central West Health Region. At that time the Village was comprised of some 40 hostel units and a 22 bed nursing home; the very first resident was Elsie Jones who stayed for some many years in the nursing home.
The organising committee who put so much work and effort in bringing the concept into being was headed by the President, Keith Hordern. The two Vice Presidents were Mr Frank Adams and Dick Gavel. John Dyson was the Secretary and B Hunter the Treasurer. Members of the Committee were John Derham, Fred Hall, Ron Moran, Iris Dunne, Dr A Shroot, Doris Cooper, Vera Hall, Alan Press, W Grey and Perce Cooley.
Matron Judy Kelly was the guiding power who furnished the building and employed the staff to run it. It was a marathon effort and done with untiring and unstinted devotion to her duty. Judy held this position until October 1984.
